Team AFC, our group mentoring program, brings together adult volunteer mentors and mentees ages 7 to 14 for team-building and group mentoring activities. Mentees have direct experiences in out-of-home care, such as foster care, adoption, residential care, kinship care and are from the Metro Boston area.

Become a mentor!

Participants commit to at least one year of meeting for group activities every two weeks for at least six hours per month. Team AFC members do site-based team building activities, but they have the freedom to determine exactly what those activities are. Last year, one team enjoyed improvisational acting and long-range team projects while the other enjoyed movie-making activities. Several mentors and mentees say Team AFC is a highlight of their month!

Post-Match Support

We encourage all mentors to attend mentor support and networking meetings. At these meetings, mentors can discuss successes and roadblocks to the development of their match relationship. AFC Mentoring also provides on-going training based on their needs.

Mentoring program coordinators also make monthly phone calls to mentors and mentees to make sure everyone's needs are met in the match. We are also in contact with social workers or parents of all mentees on a consistent basis.
