Save the Date! On May 27, AFC will be holding the first annual MATCH: A Runway Revolution.
The event, centered on a fashion show featuring local designers and models, will include a pre- and after-party, a silent auction, VIP rooms, and prizes for the best-dressed attendees in certain categories.
There will be hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine, and special guest appearances! Tickets are $50 and go on sale soon. So spread the word and we will see you in a few months!

AFC will be the beneficiary of a series of Charity Poker Events hosted by the Eastern Poker Tour. On March 5, 12, and 19, three tournaments will take place at the Son's of Italy in Braintree with proceeds going to AFC.
Each tournament will start with single table satellite tournaments at 4:00 p.m. Buy-in for the satellite tables is $30. The top players from each table advance to the multi-table, "Main Event," for the evening. Registration begins at 7:00 p.m., and play commences at 7:30 p.m.
There is usually a turnout of 80-150 players who must donate $125 as they play for the 75% payout going to the top 10% of the field. The remaining amount will go to AFC! So the more people who come and play, the better!

At a recent AFC event, one of our awesome matches, Marc and Marquis, talked a little about their mentorship and what it has meant to them. Check out this video to learn a little bit about their story!

January was the ninth annual National Mentoring Month! By some estimates, there are over 17 million youth in need of mentoring. AFC Mentoring targets the several thousand youth with foster care experience in the greater Boston area. On Jan. 21, in honor of "Thank Your Mentor" Day, the First Lady and President welcomed mentoring matches to the White House to discuss the importance of mentoring.
Last January, over half a million people sought out more information on volunteer mentor opportunities in their area. AFC Mentoring hopes that you will respond this year by learning more about opportunities available at AFC as well as at other mentoring organizations.

A recent article in the New York Times discusses a unique nonprofit in St. Louis that uses detectives to track down long lost relatives of youth in foster care with the hopes that one of them will be willing to take the youth into their own home. It also touches on the pressing need to find a stable presence for teenagers moving from location to location in foster care.
